I want a divorce. Can I cancel my spouse's credit card?
It's probably not in your best interest to cancel your spouse's credit card right before you file for divorce, although there won't be any orders in place at that point in time that prohibit you from removing your spouse from your credit card. It's important that when we're going to court initially, when that first petition for divorce is filed, that we're going into the court and showing the judge that we want to maintain the status quo and we want to play fair. And what that's going to do is that's going to provide the judge the opportunity to recognize that we're being level headed in our game plan, and we're making smart decisions to separate and proceed with the divorce as amicably as possible. And for that reason, it's important that you did not remove your spouse from your credit card, even leading up to the divorce.
